CPU Temp Problems

Hi All,

Had my PC since November 21 with little to no problems.

This morning i booted up my PC and the CPU fans seemed much louder than usual and after about 10 mins the PC completely shut off without any warning. When booting back up i noticed a CPU temperature error. When entering the BIOS the CPU is running at around 89 degrees which i assume isn't normal? Spec for PC is below if anyone has any ideas?

Currently i have tried simply unscrewing and re-screwing the CPU cooler which didn't help. Wires all seem connected which is no surprise as a wire wouldn't suddenly come loose after a couple of years use.

I know the CPU is liquid cooled and i don't have any experience messing with liquid cooled units so any help would be appreciated.

It’s likely the pump has failed, you’d need to raise an RMA with PCS. I wouldn’t advise getting the same cooler though, a corsair H115i would be more suitable.

Spoke with PCS and they suggested applying some new thermal paste or sending it to them to inspect. Do you reckon it could be a simple problem with the paste? I’ve took the cpu cooler off and cleaned some of the paste around the edge and the temp seems to be all over the place now, as low as 71 then next minute back up to 89 then dropping back to 71 again?

Is there anyway to tell if it’s the pump that’s failed? I felt both the pipes and they both seem similar temperature (not hold or cold)

Interestingly, after a few hours with the PC powered off, the temperatures are down in the 40s and fans much quieter. I have it booked in for a RMA on Monday? What do i do?!

With regards to what? If it’s done it once and corrected, it doesn’t mean it’s better, should never happen. Needs replacing. But as said, I wouldn’t replace it, that cooler isn’t really suitable anyway so will have been working far harder than it’s designed to which will mean a short lifespan no matter what

do i still send it in next week for a diagnostic? i'm worried if they can't replicate the issue it's a waste of time and money....
They don’t need to replicate it, no AIO should ever who those symptoms, the cooler is not suitable for the processor and as such is having to work far harder than it’s designed to, it’s only a matter of time before it fully fails. Needs to be replaced

Okay. Thanks. What CPU cooler would you recommend instead if i replace it i ask PCS to replace with a different one?

Just the standard H115i or the H115i Elite? Can you link me the one you think is most suitable for my system?

They're all the same pump, the different models have different levels of RGB as you scale up, whatever fits you best.

Had the below response from PC Specialist? What would you recommend? I am not too fussed about the amount of RGB so is the upgraded one worth the extra £14?

"We have begun work on your RMA. We have found the pump is intermittently failing causing overheating issues, as the cooler is no longer under warranty a new one would need to be purchased to continue. I can see you have requested to upgrade to a Corsair H115i AIO cooler, we have two versions of this the CORSAIR iCUE H115i ELITE CAPELLIX XT RGB for £143 and the CORSAIR ICUE LINK H115i RGB for £157.00. The iCUE link is the newer version of the cooler with a slightly improved performance compared to the elite capellix. Let me know which of these you would like to go for by replying to this email or by calling our customer care team on 0333 011 7000. Once the order has been created and payment has been made we can continue with your RMA repair."

The Link has the benefit that the fans don't connect via cables, they have magnetised connectors that create the circuit, so the build looks a lot cleaner.

For only £14 I would say it's 100% worth going for the Link, that's a seriously good deal!

Link will unquestionably become the new standard, so if you wanted to add fans in the future, it would be really cool to just add further link ones. Plus you could carry it all forward to another system when you upgrade.
